Add/import subscribers to MailChimp

Once you have created a list in MailChimp you can begin to import your email lists which are known as subscribers. If you set up a signup form, this will automatically have people who sign up to your emails be imported to your list.

You can also add single email addresses at a time. Have you got friends and family who want to be on your list or have customers come in to your shop wanting to be on your list? You can even make that an automated process with Chimpadeedoo.

So to import a list of subscribers you will need to have a list saved in an excel spreadsheet to copy and paste or you will need a spreadsheet file saved in .CSV (Comma Separated Values) or a TXT file. All spreadsheet softwares will allow you to save your spreadsheets as .CSV.

Add bulk email list

Log in to your MailChimp account and in your Dashboard select Lists. Once there you can then select the list you want to import your emails into and choose Add a subscriber for a single email or Import subscribers to add multiple.

To import your list, simply select Import from a CSV or TXT File. The other option, Copy/Paste from Excel is basically the same process but you paste in your emails from an Excel spreadsheet if the file is too large for importing.

Once Import from a CSV file is selected you will be able to browse your own files for your .csv or .txt file to upload your emails to MailChimp. Select Browse and insert your file.

Now select Upload List.

Here you match columns to your excel columns, for example you may have first names, last names, emails, mobile numbers, age and so on, these can be selected with the drop down menu. So our list only has emails but then also has the time signed up. What we do here is select Save for Email Addresses which will move us on to the next column where we will select Skip to delete it.

You can now select Complete Import.

Your list will now import and tell you at the top how many subscribers you have.

Add single email

To had one email at a time you simply got to Add subscribers > Add a subscriber and fill out the form, you do not have to fill out all fields, only the email field but it helps to have names etc…

You will then need to check the box saying you have permission and if you may already have that email address in your lists you can select the bottom box to update their profile. That’s the two simple steps to importing your email lists.
