Clean up your WordPress database

Have you been using WordPress for a while? Then you will most likely need to clean up your WordPress site. Doing a regular database clean up will reduce database size which means a faster WordPress website.

To do this you simply download the plugin WP-Sweep.

First, make a backup

Before doing this we recommend you backup your website as changes made by this plugin are irreversible. Learn how to make a backup here: Backup your WordPress website.

So log into your WordPress dashboard, head over to Plugins > Add New and type in WP-Sweep. Upon installing and activating the plugin you will be able to find it under Tools > Sweep.

You will then be able to see a report of how much clutter you can clean. This is what we see when we first installed the plugin.

The sweep report is divided into different sections for your posts, comments, user meta, options, terms, and database optimize. You can go through the list individually and select what you would like to sweep or you can scroll to the bottom of the page and clean everything in your WordPress database.

WP-Sweep will show you the progress by updating the stats on the plugin page.
